7/24/2023 0 Comments Folx transgenderhave been used for at least our entire modern history to discredit and smear us, so it does make me feel sad to see these attitudes also coming from within. These same kinds of feelings about our words/ideas/lives being laughable, made up, unnecessary etc. Anyone whose support of trans ppl hinges on a few “silly” “made up” words is probably already leaning towards transphobia anyway. While I understand that we all will have our own opinions about the necessity of these word modifications (for ex I don’t use trans* since I think it can also imply that when someone does not include the asterisk it means they are only being inclusive of certain identities which is not what the word transgender means to me) I have to agree w a lot of the other commenters. I think it’s more that some ppl and groups use “folx” to signal inclusion of queer, trans, and poc individuals- in the same way the word transgender is not exclusionary by definition but some use the word “trans*” to indicate inclusiveness off all trans gnc and gender diverse identities. there is nothing there to indicate that ppl feel that “folks” is discriminatory or transphobic. Preface, I do see folx used very often, don’t feel the need to use it myself, just read the linked article.
